The Miss Universe pageant is one of the three most popular annual beauty pageant and is run by the Miss Universe Organization. The contest was created by clothing company, Pacific Mills in 1952 in the United States.

There are many beauty pageants that take place at a local, national and international level. Each year, many hopefuls from towns and cities take place in local beauty pageants, through which they are put through a grueling process of various rounds such as swim suit round, evening gown, Q & A session, etc. Following this, one winner is selected who is considered as beautiful and graceful. That person then goes on represent that state in the Miss X competition of the country that she belongs to. For example: a bunch of Miss from various different states such as Miss Utha, Miss Nevada, etc. will then represent their state at the Miss USA pageant.

The Miss World and Miss Universe are two different pageants that take place each year. These are nothing more than beauty contents after which the winners are expected to show up at certain prominent events until the next winner is announced the following year. The Miss Universe pageant is considered to have a higher status than Miss World; however there is nothing official to suggest that either one is better. Many critics state that Miss Universe is wrongly named as only women from earth take part in it.

Previously, it was in partnership with Trump and CBS, who used to originally broadcast the show. The pageant is held annually and the Miss Universe then travels the country representing the organization.

The major difference between the two pageants is that it is owned by two different organizations. They are also held at different times in the year, so that they do not conflict with each other.
