They may also have fringes towards the end of the two long sides. These scarves are wrapped around the neck and chest under the jacket or nose and mouth to keep out the cold. Scarves that are for fashionable purposes are small rectangular pieces of thin clothing that is used to tie around the neck, shoulders or head. They are usually made from chiffon, silk or other such materials so that they are light and do not weigh on the person carrying them. Scarves can be worn my men as well as women.

The major difference between a stole and a scarf likes in usage and size. Stoles are smaller and lighter and are used for only fashionable purposes. On the other hand, scarves are used for a variety of purposes such as keeping warm, accenting a dress or even religious ones.
