Difference between Samsung Galaxy S5 and S5 Mini

Key Difference: The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest smartphone in its line of flagship phones. Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is the mid-range variant of Samsung Galaxy S5. S5 Mini is the first mid-range smartphone to include Envelope Tracking, which improves Power Amplifier efficiency and hence decreases heat and increases battery life.

Many OEMS today release a mid-range version of their flagship phones. These phones often cut back on some features while keeping some things the same. Samsung, one of the leading OEM today, follows in the same tradition. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest smartphone in its line of flagship phones. Following the release of the S5, Samsung soon announced the launch of its mid-range variant, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. Like all mid-range versions, the S5 Mini also has many features similar to the S5, while being different enough to be considered a different phone.

What makes the S5 Mini stand out is that it is the first mid-range smartphone to include Envelope Tracking, which improves Power Amplifier efficiency and hence decreases heat and increases battery life. In terms of design, the S5 Mini is pretty much identical to the S5. However, it is a bit smaller than the S5, as it has a 4.5 inch screen, compared to the 5.1 inch screen on the S5. Also, the Mini has a HD resolution (720 x 1280 pixels), while the S5 has a Full HD resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels).

In terms of hardware, the S5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB RAM. While, the S5 Mini is powered by a Exynos 3 Quad 3470 with a  Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, Mali-400MP4 GPU and a 1.5 GB of RAM. Both run on Android KitKat v4.4. Additionally, while the S5 come in two storage variants: 16 GB and 32 GB, the S5 Mini comes in only a 16 GB variant. The S5 allows additional storage up to 128 GB, while the S5 Mini allows storage up to 64 GB.
The S5 comes with a 16 MP 5312 x 2988 pixels camera and a 2 MP 1080p front facing camera. The S5 Mini comes with a 8 MP 3264 x 2448 pixels camera and a 2.1 MP 1080p front facing camera. The S5 also uses a hybrid autofocus system that uses standard auto focus with phase detection autofocus, which means that the camera auto focuses in upto 0.3 seconds, which is faster than most phone cameras.

Both phones have a fingerprint scanner on the home button, as well as heart rate sensor on the back that syncs with the updated S Health App. Furthermore, both are also water and dust resistant. Also the S5 comes with USB 3.0 which allows much faster data transfer rates, and reduced charging time.
