Difference between Smoothie, Juice and Shake

Key Difference: Smoothie is made by blending the whole food. It may exclude the skin and seed depending upon the fruit. Juice is the liquid part of fruit or vegetable which is extracted from it. It leaves behind the pulp. Shake is a beverage which is based on dairy products like milk or ice-cream. They have added flavors from syrups, fruits or powders.

Smoothie, juice and shake are beverages which are preferred by everyone. They are sweet and refreshing. There are few differences between the three. Smoothie is a beverage which is obtained by blending the whole fruit. Normally, one does does not bother to squeez or to peel the fruit. It contains the pulp, and therefore it is quiet thick.  For some fruits, one needs to peel the skin and get rid of the seeds. They are considered good for health as they provide the fiber of the fruits.

They act as a quick meal replacement. They tend to be lighter than many other food itmes, and therefore they are recommended for a meal before or after a workout. It is a raw food, and therefore brings all benefits associated with raw foods in the diets.

Juice is another drink which has its own advantages. It is the liquid part of the fruit or vegetable which is extracted from it. They are quiet beneficial for the body and are considered to be the vitamin and mineral infusions.

They do not contain any fiber and some of the proteins may also get lost in the process of juicing. Due to its liquidity, one does not have to worry about digesting it to get the nutrients’ out from it. A centrifugal or masticating juicer can be used for obtaining juices.

Shakes are different from juices and smoothies as they are made with a dairy base which happens to be milk or ice-cream usually. It is also usually flavored or sweetened with different items like fruit syrup and chocolate sauce. They are generally topped with whipped cream and candy toppings.

The original milkshake was like eggnog made from eggs, whiskey and a dairy base. Over the years, they have been evolved.

It can also be considered as a thick version of a juice, as unlike juice it retains the pulp. Milkshakes or shakes are different from smoothies and juices as they are primarily based on dairy products like milk and ice cream. Smoothies and juice do not contain ice creams like most of the shakes.
