Lipstick and lip gloss are among cosmetic products, which are a big necessity for females nowadays. They are being used all over the world by women to enhance their look and make them look more gorgeous. Nevertheless, there are vast differences between both the products in their benefits, disadvantages, ingredients, shades, etc.
Lipstick is a crayon-like oil-based cosmetic in a tubular container, which are used for coloring the lips. Whereas, lip gloss is a glossy lip color, used with a built in lip brush. Though lipsticks are more long lasting, they are surely not easy to apply anytime, anywhere. In contrast, lip glosses are less long-lasting, but are fairly easy to apply. Lipsticks tend to dry the lips, whereas lip glosses have a moisturizing effect on them.
Ancient Mesopotamian women were possibly the first to invent and wear lipstick. On the other hand, a popular cosmetics company from Procter and Gamble, Max Factor, was the one that invented lip gloss in 1930. Lipstick contains pigments, oils, waxes, and emollients, whereas lip gloss does not contain wax, and they are highly pigmented, opaque and smooth.

However, the same cannot be done with lip gloss. After a certain amount of time, lipsticks cause dryness on the lips. On the other hand, lip gloss leaves a moist effect on the lips. Lipsticks are more preferable by women anytime, as it gives them a very decent look. On the other hand, lip glosses are more preferable by women during night time or in parties, when they want to enhance their smoky eye make up with shiny lips.
Thus, whether you have a preference of using a lipstick or a lip gloss, they will be your essential makeup products, always.
