Key difference: The main difference between cake and pie is the content of which they are made. Cake is made up of frostings and creams, while pie is baked bread, made up of stuffing.

A cake is a form of bread or bread-like food. In its modern form, it is typically a sweet baked dessert. The modern cakes are made up of layers of creams and icings. Cakes are classified according to the occasion for which they are intended, for example wedding cakes, birthday cakes, etc.

The cakes are baked and served with as well as without icing. Icing and creamy cakes are more preferred, in occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, functions and parties. Main ingredients in cake are flour, butter, baking powder and milk. When stuff mixed with appropriate quantity and with the desired stuffing, cakes are made. There are many flavors of cake available in the market. Cakes are spongy in nature. They are mostly favourites of all and loved by everyone.

A pie is a baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and base of pastry. It is usually made of a pastry dough casing that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet ingredients. Pie has stuffing filled inside it. They are sweet as well as sav in taste. They consist of crust layers on the upper parts.

A top-crust pie, which is also be called as a cobbler, has the filling in the bottom of the dish and is covered with a pastry or other covering before baking. A two-crust pie has the filling completely enclosed in the pastry shell. Pies can be a variety of sizes, ranging from bite-size to ones designed for multiple servings.  Pies are also available in varieties of flavors.
