Difference between Apple iPad 2 and iPad 3
Key Difference: iPad 2 is the second generation iPad (tablet) of Apple Inc. Whereas, iPad 3 is the third generation iPad i.e. successor of iPad 2. Both the iPads have the same screen size of 9.7 inches with multi-touch display.
The iPad 2 was launched on March 2, 2011. The iPad 2 is the second generation iPad; a tablet computer designed, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It creates a platform for audio-visual media including books, news, movies, music, games, presentations and web content. The iPad 2 has a lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts up to 10 hours. It also has a dual core Apple A5 processor and VGA front-facing and 720p rear-facing cameras designed for FaceTime video calling.
The device was available initially with three storage sizes, 16, 32 and 64 GB. It has two varying connectivity options, Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and Cellular. However, upon the release of the 3rd generation iPad, only the 16 GB variation with two connectivity options and two front glass panel options is available.
The iPad 3 was released in ten countries on March 16, 2012. The third generation iPad is also a tablet computer, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. Three million units were sold in the first three days. It is the third device in the iPad line of tablets. It added a Retina display and the new Apple A5X chip with a quad-core graphics processor. It also has a 5 mega-pixel camera, HD 1080p video recording, voice dictation and 4G (LTE). On September 19, 2012, Siri, intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator, was added to the iPad 3.
It also provides a platform for audio-visual media, including electronic books, periodicals, films, music, computer games, presentations and web content with iOS 5.1. The device is available with three storage options, 16, 32 and 64 GB. The WiFi only version was essentially available everywhere, comparatively the WiFi + Cellular version was not available in some countries. LTE connectivity for the device is not available outside North America.
However, the third generation iPad was discontinued on October 23, 2012, after only 221 days of official availability as the fourth generation iPad was announced.
