Key difference: The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology generally studies psychology from the aspect of arts and humanities, whereas the Bachelor of Science in Psychology studies the subject with an emphasis on the sciences.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology are two courses that one can pursue to get accreditation in the field of psychology. In terms of the psychology coursework, the courses do not differ much. The differences actually arise in the focus that is placed on the psychology coursework and in terms of the electives that one has to take to complete the credits for that course.

While, the actual difference may differ as per the university or the country, there are some common points that usually differentiate the two courses. The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology generally studies psychology from the aspect of arts and humanities, whereas the Bachelor of Science in Psychology studies the subject with an emphasis on the sciences.

It can be said that the BA in Psychology focuses on the sociological and environmental areas of psychology. One pursuing a BA in Psychology may also be required to take electives in foreign language. The degree puts emphasis on how humans adapt to rapidly changing social and physical environments.

BA in Psychology is usually focused on helping people that are pursuing careers in education, counseling, social work, human resources, or journalism. Also, people who want to work as therapists, guidance counselors or psychologists may pursue a BA in Psychology, but may require advanced degrees.

On the other hand, a BS in Psychology focuses on the biochemical aspects of mental health. Its emphasis is on the scientific aspects of psychology. In addition to the core curriculum requirements of psychology, students may also have to take electives in biology, behavioral statistics, research methods, a cognitive science, chemistry, college physics, mathematics, computer science and or forensic science. Furthermore, students may also need to fulfill additional lab requirements and complete intensive research assignments.

A BS in Psychology prepares students for a career as medical doctors, forensic psychologists, neuropsychologists, biologists, lawyers, psychiatric assistants, case managers, assistant administrators, etc. People with a BS in Psychology may also purse additional degrees and careers in education, research, public policy, clinical psychology, medicine, neuropsychology, neuroscience, clinical social work, behavioral neuroscience, developmental or cognitive psychology or industrial business psychology.
