Difference between App Store and iTunes

Key Difference: The App Store is a type of digital distribution platform created by Apple for its iOS platform. It contains a large collection of mobile applications including games, and applications for productivity, communication, social media, etc. The iTunes also has the iTunes Store, through which users can purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, audiobooks, podcasts, movies and movie rentals, and ringtones.

iTunes, on the other hand, is a type of media player, media library, online radio broadcaster, and mobile device management application that is also developed by Apple. The iTunes is much older than the App Store, in fact the App Store was released as part of an iTunes update. The main function of the iTunes is to play, download, and organize digital audio and video so that the user may be able to access this library from any of their devices, including the desktop.

The iTunes also has the iTunes Store, through which users can purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, audiobooks, podcasts, movies and movie rentals, and ringtones. These downloaded items are then synced with iTunes and are then accessible through any platform when the user logs into iTunes. The iTunes store has gone on to become the largest music vendor in the United States since April 2008.

Basically, the main difference between the App Store and iTunes is that the App Store is for applications, whereas the iTunes is for media. Additionally, the App Store can only be accessed from the iPhones and iPads, whereas iTunes can be accessed from the iPhones, iPads, and the Desktop. Still, one can access the App Store through iTunes on the Desktop.
