Difference between Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear 2

Key Difference: The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest flagship phone in the company’s Galaxy line. The Galaxy Gear 2 is a smartwatch that can be paired with a smartphone such as the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, etc.

Samsung is one of the leading OEMs in the smartphone industry. Its line of Galaxy snmatphones is quite popular and sells well. In addition to smartphones, Samsung has expanded its Galaxy line to include wearables such as smartwatches. This introduced the Galaxy Gear smartwatches. The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 is one of the latest smartwatches to be released by the company.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest flagship phone to be released by the conglomerate. It features a 5.1 inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. This touchscreen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. For the exterior of the phone, the company has stuck with the polycarbonate, which many criticize looks like plastic. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Krait 400, Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB RAM.

The phone also includes a 16 MP camera capable of taking a picture with 5312 x 2988 pixel resolution. Here the S5 uses uses a hybrid autofocus system that uses standard auto focus with phase detection autofocus, which means that the camera auto focuses in upto 0.3 seconds, which is faster than most phone cameras. It also has 2 MP 1080p front facing camera.The S5 is available in two storage variants, 16 GB and 32 GB, and allows expandable storage of up to 128 GB. It comes in four color variants: black, white, blue and copper.

The S5 is dust and water resistant. It has an IP67 rating which means that it can be submerged in water up to 3.3 feet for up to 30 minutes without suffering damage. It also features a fingerprint scanner it in its home button and a heart rate monitor on the back that syncs with an updated S Health App. The S5 is also upgraded to USB 3.0 which means that it allows for faster data transfer rates and reduced charging times. It also features a new Ultra Power Saving Mode, which when activated turns the phone into black and white and shuts down all background apps, allowing the battery to last longer. The M8 features Motion Launch, which allows one to unlock the phone without reaching for the power button.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, on the other hand, is a smartphone, which means that it can only be used in collaboration with a Galaxy smartphone. While the previous version of Galaxy Gear was run on Android, the Gear 2 runs on Tizen. The watch comes with a home button placed just below the screen. The screen is a 1.63-inch square-shaped Super AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 320×320 pixels.

The watch is powered by 1.0 GHz dual-core Exynos 3250 and 512 MB of RAM. It has a storage capacity of 4 GB. The watch also incorporates a 2 MP camera, which is incorporated towards the top of the screen. Like the S5, it has a heart rate monitor on the back of the watch, which syncs to the S Health app. The Gear 2 is powered by a 300 mAh battery which allows a typical usage of between 2 and 3 days. After which, the watch must be placed it its special Micro USB-equipped charging case to recharge.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 allows users to sync notifications from a smartphone, through Bluetooth Low Energy. The user can also use ‘Smart Relay to automatically open the relevant app for the notification on their smartphone or tablet, use S Voice for dictation and voice commands, place and answer phone calls, and locate the host phone or tablet, or vice versa with the "Find My Device" tool.’ The watch also has the option of WatchON which uses the watch’s infrared blaster to allow the user to use the watch as a remote for the TV and/or cable/satellite box. The watch also has ‘an integrated music player which can store songs on the device's internal storage.’
