Difference between Scholarship and Freeship
Key Difference: Scholarship is a financial grant aid awarded to students to help them pay for their education whereas a freeship can be defined as a financial aid providing the student with remission of the whole or half of the institution fees. It generally means exemption from paying tution fees.

It generally refers to grants in support of undergraduate education whereas a freeship can be defined as a financial aid providing the student with remission of the whole or half of the institution fees. It generally means exemption from paying tution fees. Scholarships are mostly given to students who are excellent in academics. And therefore scholarships act as an incentive to encourage meritorious students. On the other hand freeships are generally given to economically weak students. Application for Freeship has to be made at college office with supporting documents. Government also grants freeship to certain categories.
Freeship and scholarship both motivates the students and is regarded blessing in the education sector. Freeship is also granted to the needy student and outstanding sportsmen, depending upon the criteria of the college or concerned authorities. Generally, Scholarships do not require to be applied formally with filled application forms and candidates are selected on the basis of their brilliant academic record or performance where as for freeships the applicant has to follow the applying norms and conditions of the concerned authority. Scholarships and freeships both have been devised to promote education and therefore most of the times are used collectively to denote financial aid for the students.
