Difference between Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
Key Difference: Galaxy S6 has a straight screen that ends with a bezel on the sides. However, the S6 Edge comes with a curved screen that covers the sides of the phone and connects to the back panel.
include("ad4th.php"); ?>Samsung has made a huge dent in the smartphone arena, with its Galaxy flagship phones. It is currently one of the most popular companies for smartphones, tablets, etc. Last year, with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the company took a huge hit in the sales. The phone was considered a huge failure and resulted in losses for Samsung. So, with the New Year, Samsung has gone all out to introduce a more innovative and appealing phone – Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
Samsung Galaxy 6 and its variant S6 Edge are two of the most talked about phones that are setting precedence for the smartphones this year. So, with a price difference of around US 100 dollars approximately, what exactly is the difference between the two?
The more appropriate questions would be how they are similar, as the phones offer very few differences. Both the phones comes with 5.1 inch Quad HD display – that’s right it offers more than Full HD with a whopping 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. Both are coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front screen and the back panel to ensure protection from scratches and breaks. However, a lot of people have complained that the Gorilla Glass has not protected from cracks and scratches when the phone is dropped and one may have to invest in a protective case.
include("ad3rd.php"); ?>S6 and S6 Edge offer the same high definition camera with 16 MP on the back and a 5 MP on the front. The back cameras come with optical image stabilization. Even under the hood, both phones are powered by the Samsung Exynos 7420 processor and come with an octo-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.1GHz and another four at 1.5GHz. Both also come with wireless charging (but its market dependent) and the even the rest of the little details are exactly the same.
So what is the difference? The S6 Edge comes with a curved screen that covers the sides of the phone and connects to the back panel. The curve is supposed to allow easier access to applications on the phone. Another huge difference is the battery – Galaxy S6 is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 2550 mAh battery, while the S6 Edge is powered by a similar battery but a 2600 mAh one.The phones also differ in terms of weight and dimensions. While the S6 is slightly shorter and heavier, the S6 Edge is slightly longer by lighter. However, this difference is not significant to affect everyday usage.
The S6 Edge comes with four interesting little functions, ‘Information Stream’, ‘Night Clock’, ‘Edge Lighting’ and ‘People Edge’. Information stream allows users to scroll information on the edge of the phone. Night clock works similarly but instead of information such as battery and missed calls, it shows the time. Edge Lighting is slightly different – in this the phone will light up with a specific color when it is placed down and someone is calling. The user will have to assign a color to the caller, and when the caller calls the phone will edge will light up with that particular color. However, for this to work the phone must be placed face down on a surface. People’s Edge is a swiping feature that allows users to pull in their Favorites or most called people by swiping from the top right side.
For now, shelling out an extra hundred for simply the curved features seems a little too much. However, maybe with the technology increasing at the rate that it currently is – something new might come out of this curved feature.
