Probation refers to status of a new employee of a company or business, whose work is closely evaluated whereas confirmation generally means to confirm the services of new employee. Probation and confirmation both are regarded as final steps of recruitment cycle and beginning steps for the employment life cycle. Recruitments in the offices are done to hire new talents as well as to hire experienced professionals. The company generally recruits the employee after interviewing and checking his credentials. If the candidate is selected than he is asked to join the company. Initially the candidate has to serve probation period.

Probation is also known as assessment period as it gives the chance to management and employee to assess each other and if things go well then they can be asset to each other. The time in which the employee is kept at probation is also known as probation period. This probation period may vary from company to company, but it usually lasts for 3-6 months. The company at the probation period of the employee views that whether this new employee is able to cope up with the requirements of the job or not. If company finds things to be satisfactory and find the employee to be suitable for the job, company confirms the job of the employee and he gets the benefits of confirmed employee; his is known as confirmation.

Probation period is also used as training period. The new employee has to be informed about the work culture as well as specific things about the work he/she will be performing in the company. In this time the employee is trained for the job and is provided with all the necessary information about the company and work. The employee in the probation time also gets aware with the work culture ad gets time to familiarize with processes of the company. Employee also gets introduced to the other colleagues, as it is very important to know the people, with whom the employee will be working.

Before the probation period ends, company decides whether to retain the person or not. Confirmation is the successful outcome of probation. In case the things go wrong either from the employee’s side or from the side of company, in that case the employment gets annulled or cancelled. In certain situations the probation period can also be extended. In probation the employee must take care of things like- taking few leaves, no delay in work, follow all guidelines of the office etc.  Confirmation on the other hand means that the trial period is over and now the employee is referred as permanent employee of the company.
