Difference between HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S3

Key Difference: HTC One offers processor speed of 1.7GHz compared to the 1.4GHz on the S3. One also provides 2GB RAM compared to the 1GB available on the S3. The display of HTC One is believed to be spectacular with pristine clear and sharp images. HTC One also trumps the S3 in terms of the chassis/casing. The plastic casing on the S3 seems cheap and flimsy compared to the all-aluminum frame provided by the One. However, S3 offers a bigger screen as well as expandable capacity, whereas HTC One only limits the users to the storage available with the phone.

Technology is a dynamic sector that often changes when new technology replaces the old outdated technology. This is most commonly seen in smartphones and tablets. People are constantly changing their cell phones to keep up with new technologies and the companies release new phones to cater to the demand of the peoples. HTC and Samsung are two smartphones companies that are competing to capture the market with the latest technology.

Though Samsung was a popular electronics company, it still had to prove itself when it stepped in the cell phone market. Through the launch of innovative phones and good features it managed to become a key competitor in the market. The company launched its Galaxy S3 in May 2012. HTC is expected to launch its flagship phone HTC One in March 2013 with a brand new Qualcomm quad-core processor. It is expected to give direct competition to iPhone and Galaxy S3.

In terms of hardware and software, HTC One sports a 4.7 inch Super LCD3 screen, with Full HD1080p, 468 PPI and corning gorilla glass 2. The HTC One comes with Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean that is upgradable to v4.2.2. The case is an all-aluminum frame with an antenna built into its backing. It includes a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2 GB DDR2. The phone is available with non-expandable, 32 or 64GB internal capacity. It offers a 4 megapixel 2688 x 1520 pixels primary camera with autofocus, LED flash and BSI sensor, along with a 2.1 MP, 1080p@30fps, HDR secondary camera. The main feature is the new pixilation system that is opted in the primary camera of the phone, which provides each pixel size of 2.0 µm and sensor size of 1/3'. The One also includes a new camera app known as ‘Zoe’, which records a short video alongside every photo taken and allows the resulting photos and videos to be automatically combined and synchronized with music to produce a multimedia presentation known as a Zoe. The One also offers a new feature on the home screen known as the BlinkFeed. This is a newsfeed that automatically upgrades every two hours if connected with a mobile service or more frequently when connected via WiFi. The BlinkFeed takes up the main home screen and cannot be removed, resulting in the home screen as not being as customizable as in the previous phones. The price of the phone has not yet been released.

The Galaxy S3 is a slate-format multi-touch smartphone. It is a successor of Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S but abandons the rectangular design of the predecessors and opts for more rounded corners making it resemble the Galaxy Nexus. The S3 sports a 4.8 HD Super AMOLED screen with corning gorilla glass 2. It is offered with Android v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and can be upgraded to 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). The Galaxy S III has a polycarbonate plastic chassis and is available in a variety of different colors. The S3 supports a 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 Quad-core processor, Mali-400MP GPU and 1 GB RAM. The S3 is available with 16 or 32 GB internal storage capacity, which can be expanded up to an additional 64 GB. The phone boasts an 8 megapixel Auto Focus camera with flash, zero shutter lag and BSI. It also supports a 1.9 megapixel secondary camera that is capable of recording HD videos @30fps. When the phone was initially launched in May, the phone was considered to have been backed with innovative features and the TouchWiz "Nature UX" GUI was considered to be advanced. The GUI also included the “Water Lux” effect which can produce water ripples on contact. The phone also offered S Voice in response to Apple’s Siri, which enabled users to verbally control 20 functions on the phone. It was effectively considered as a iPhone killer. It also received additional publicity because of the ongoing patent infringement lawsuits against Apple.

Though, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been in the market for a while and its sales are still going on strong, the HTC One yet to be launched. When comparing the phones on paper, HTC One has the S3 beat. HTC One offers processor speed of 1.7GHz compared to the 1.4GHz on the S3. Will the HTC One beat the S3 in terms of sales? This can only be decided once HTC One is launched in the market.
